Space has many uncovered secrets which Scientists keep trying to discover. One of those secrets was recently discovered. Apparently, Uranus and Neptune are rained with solid diamond every once in a while.
These million's worth of diamonds are in the form of hydrocarbon-rich oceans of slush which falls as giants' solid cores. Extreme pressure in this region is speculated to split these molecules into atoms of hydrogen and carbon and the latter crystallize to form diamonds.
An idea of sinking these diamonds through the ocean until hitting the core was conceptualized but the probability of it working is not confirmed yet. In a study, it was mentioned that researchers were actually able to produce diamond rain with fancy plastic and high-powered lasers.
Study lead author, Dominik Kraus, a physicist at the Helmholtz Dresden-Rossendorf research center in Germany said, “When I saw the results of this latest experiment, it was one of the best moments of my scientific career.”
The diamond rain lasts only for only a fraction of a second and the size of diamonds is no bigger than a nanometer. Due to the enlarged size of Neptune and Uranus, their air pressure is million times more intense than Earth's, leading to oceans being crushed by more pressure.
