Google rolling out Daydream VR support for Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

August 07, 2017

Google has announced that Daydream VR, its virtual reality platform willnow support the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. This makes a total of 5 smartphones that currently support Google's VR platform.

The current roster of Daydream supported smartphones include the Google made Pixel smartphones, Moto Z, ZTE Axon 7, Huawei's Mate 9 Pro along with Samsung's Galaxy flagship smartphones.

The owners of both the Galaxy S8 smartphones now have an option of using either the company's own Oculus based Gear VR headset or Google's Daydream View to dive into the world of virtual reality.

Though Google is seeding Daydream support to Galaxy S8 smartphones globally, it will take some time to finish rolling out. So users should be on the lookout for a software update which will bring support for Daydream VR.

Google's Daydream VR has a host of new applications specifically developed for virtual reality which makes a user's experience on the platform stand out. Apart from the VR apps, YouTube videos that are made in immersive 360 degrees add to the available content on the Daydream VR platform.

As yours truly had noted in the REVIEW OF DAYDREAM VIEW headset, the VR content available for users is still in its infancy but the platform allows users to witness firsthand what can be expected from virtual reality in the coming days. Google ha d already promised back in the day that they will have Daydream VR support for 11 phones by the end of this year and adding support for the Samsung flagship smartphones proves that it want's to make good on that promise.

The Daydream View headset by Google is available on Flipkart for Rs 6,499 while Samsung's own Gear VR 3 headset is listed for Rs 9,900 on its online store
