Samsung announced its flagship phones - S8 and S8+ earlier this year. The company brought the phones to India in April. It is hardly some five months that the phone has been made available to the consumers, and within such a short span Samsung has already managed to ship over 20 million units of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagship phones. The report comes from a market research firm -- Strategy Analytics. The numbers are recorded until July, and it must have increased by now.
The research firm in its report notes that the per day shipments of the flagship duo has been -- 278,800, to be specific. So in total, the tech giant shipped 19.8 million units in the April-June period. This report comes in after some report revealed that Galaxy S8 sales are slowing down. But, that's surely never happened. Last month, Samsung has said that the latest flagships are around 15 per cent higher than their predecessors - Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and the others. While in some other report the South Korean company said that Galaxy S8 sales have in fact been double that of the S7 in some markets.
Market research firm Strategy Analytics on Thursday announced that Samsung has continued to maintain the topmost position in terms of the largest smartphone company. It maintained first position with 22 per cent global smartphone market share.
As per the report, Xiaomi has become the fifth largest smartphone company in the world, both in terms of shipments as well as market share. "Xiaomi surged 58 per cent annually and rejoined the top five rankings for the first time in a year," according to data obtained for Q2 2017 from Strategy Analytics' Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) service.
"Xiaomi's range of Android models, such as the Redmi 4A, is proving wildly popular in India, snatching volumes from competitors such as Lenovo and Micromax. Xiaomi has bounced back since ex-Google exec, Hugo Barra, quit the company earlier this year and Xiaomi will be hoping the current momentum can be sustained into the second half of 2017," Strategy Analytics said.
Meanwhile, Samsung is planning to roll out Android 7.1.1 Nougat software to S8 duo soon, hints Vodafone Australia. Later in the days to come, the software update may hit the Indian shores as well. However, the South Korean company is yet to confirm on the same.
