Matt Gibson's Home Addition is Wrapped in Metal-Mesh Curtains

Architect and designer Matt Gibson unveiled a curtain-wrapped extension of a traditional Melbourne home.
In this project, Gibson has taken indoor-outdoor living to the extreme. Instead of brick and mortar walls along the outer perimeter of the building, the space is shielded from the elements with steel-mesh curtains. The curtains shelter the veranda from the sun and rain but will also open up to create a large area suitable for year-round dining. The result is a free-flowing area that acts as a deep veranda of flexible living space.
Matt Gibson's studio decided to not try to replicate the traditional aesthetic of the original structure but instead wanted to create an area that blended and contrasted with the space. The studio says: "The sculptural nature of the curtain provides a free flowing and kinetic foil to the permanence and solidity of the heritage structure."
