Eicher Motors Ltd on Monday became India’s fourth most valuable automaker, displacing Bajaj Auto Ltd, which held that position so far. With this, Eicher, parent of Royal Enfield Ltd, has also become the country’s most valuable two-wheeler maker, beating Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp Ltd, which have much higher revenues.
With the 2.41% rise on Monday, shares of Eicher Motors, which makes trucks and motorcycles, have gained 38% since the beginning of the year. Data from BSE showed Eicher now has a market capitalization of Rs81,776.67 crore, after its shares closed at an all-time high of Rs30,040.60 apiece. The benchmark Sensex on Monday rose 0.63% to 32,514.94 points.
Eicher’s subsidiary Royal Enfield, which makes the Bullet and Thunderbird motorbikes, has seen brisk sales even as the overall two-wheeler market has remained sluggish. This has helped Eicher balance the cyclical weakness in its commercial vehicles business. In the three months to June, sales at Royal Enfield grew 24.7% over the last year to 188,000 units, according to industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam).
Eicher will announce its June quarter earnings on 9 August; the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of 14 analysts puts the company’s likely net profit at Rs 453 .10 crore and net sales at Rs 1966.30 crore .
New Ducati motorcycle is expected to be introduced in two variants - the SuperSport and the SuperSport S.
Expected to launch in the month of October the bookings of the Ducati SuperSport have started at Ducati dealerships across the country. With an upfront payment of Rs 1-2 lakh, you can book your SuperSport. The new Ducati motorcycle is expected to be introduced in two variants – the SuperSport and the SuperSport S.
The Supersport is a more 'road-focussed' Panigale with more importance given to ergonomics and comfort. While the bike is styled similar to the Panigale, it gets new headlamps, adjustable windscreen, new exhausts, higher set of clip-ons, a larger seat, and lower footpegs.
Royal Enfield has begun commercial production from its new manufacturing facility at Vallam Vadagal near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Spread over 50 acres, the Vallam Vadagal plant is Royal Enfield’s third manufacturing facility and will manufacture Royal Enfield motorcycles for India and international markets.
Construction of the new facility started 15 months back and has been completed in record time. The new facility has been benchmarked to the highest level of quality and productivity. The manufacturing capacity in this facility will enable the company to meet its next level of growth.
In the first phase, the state-of-the-art facility begins with an installed production capacity of 300,000 motorcycles. In FY2017-18, the combined production capacity from all the three plants is planned to be 825,000 units. In FY2016-17, Royal Enfield produced and sold 667,135 motorcycles, nearing its installed capacity. The company’s sales have grown at a compounded rate of over 55 percent over the past six years. According to Royal Enfield, its order book continues to be strong and there is a large unmet demand. In FY2017-18, it plans to invest Rs 800 crore, largely towards capacity expansion at Vallam Vadagal, new products and platforms, and setting up of technical centres in Leicester, UK and Chennai, India. This investment will be funded through internal accruals.
The capacity expansion is also part of Royal Enfield’s strategy to prepare itself from new competition. Bajaj Auto recently inked an alliance with Triumph Motorcycles to enter the midsized motorcycle space and there are a number of other domestic OEMs also eyeing this segment.

Lumos' Smart Tech Helmet Ensures Visibility on the Road
Summer is here and the urge to get out and start adventuring is real. We were all told to wear our helmets growing up, but somewhere around the teenage years, wanting to look cool took precedence over wearing clunky, potentially life-saving headgear. Now, with cyclists on the road alongside cars, safety needs to be brought back into focus, and the Lumos Bike Helmet wants to help you do it in style.
It may hit the wallet a little hard, costing a little under $200, but this helmet has the tech to back up the investment. In addition to keeping your precious cargo safe, Lumos integrates with your bike via the wireless handlebar remote to signal brakes, upcoming turns and LED lights to ensure visibility on the road. Plus, who can resist the Harry Potter reference? Lumos indeed.
Michelin's ‘Bikesphere’ Protects Cyclists with a Red Ring of Lasers
Michelin's 'Bikesphere' uses red lasers to create a protective circle around cyclists, making them undeniably visible to drivers. Very rarely do cars give bike riders the respected distance the law requires of them when over taking cyclists, resulting in an estimated 5,000 preventable accidents annually. Bikesphere aims to combat this by using its lights as a proximity detector, ensuring cars give cyclists the proper amount of space when passing.
The bike lights rest comfortably on the cyclist's handle bars and use sensors to detect when a vehicle is approaching. As the vehicle gets closer, Bikesphere will intensify its laser projection to alert the driver, highlighting how much space is needed to safely overtake.
The Bikesphere was created to coincide with Michelin's 'trendy drivers' movement, which aims to "change the habits of drivers and reduce accidents on the road."
The 'Xcooter' is Set to Be
Unveiled at CES 2016
The Miami-based company 'Smart-Rhino' is set to debut the 'Xcooter' at CES 2016. The highly anticipated release coincides with an ongoing demand for new modes of transportation for the urban consumer.
Although the Xcooter is considered an electric scooter, it does not require riders to push with their feet. Instead, riders simply hop on board and begin cruising at up to 17 mph. The scooter is ideal for city riding thanks to its 10 inch wheels, which can travel over most everyday obstacles. Once the rider has arrived at their destination, they can fold up the 42 pound scooter and store it away until it is needed again. To charge the scooter, users simply need to plug the charger into a 110-volt outlet.

The Reelight 'CIO' Bike Light Doesn't
Require Friction or Batteries
Bike lights often require a battery in order to operate unless they have a battery-free design that works off of friction, but the Reelight 'CIO' aims to change the case for both of these instances. Working with magnetic energy, the light doesn't require traditional battery packs in order to be used and will help to ensure maximum safety when you're riding at night. While the device is intended to provide illumination when the bike is in motion it will also continue to flash for up to two minutes when you have come to a brief stop.
The Reelight 'CIO' bike light boasts a waterproof design and attaches easily onto your ride via the accompanying mounting system that is effortless to attach and remove.

The Translok is a Solution to Two
Common Cycling Problems
The Translok serves as a solution for two common issues cyclists are often faced with: a lack of storage for their clunky U lock when its not in use, and the fear of having their bike lights stolen.
This innovative lock serves a dual purpose as it ensures one's bike lights won't fall victim to thieves while providing cyclists with appropriate storage space for their lock when it's not in use. This 3D-printed design clips onto the back of one's bike, and is equipped with a luminous LED light to replace the traditional bike accessory. The two-in-one design allows bikers to comfortably transport their bike lock around on their bike, instead of on their person. The built-in lights on the back of the lock provide convenient visibility, that can't be stolen.
