Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus announced with dual-displays

August 11, 2017

Leave it to the Chinese to experiment with smartphone features just to stand out of the crowd. Meizu, the Chinese electronics manufacturer has just announced its new flagship smartphone, the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus. What’s unique about these smartphones is that they come with a secondary display on the back, and no, the secondary display doesn’t take up all the rear space like the YotaPhone. Instead, the secondary display is small at just 2-inches and sits beneath the camera module. For the design, Meizu has extensively worked with the San Francisco based firm, Frog Design.

The question many people will have here is will the secondary display serve any purpose? According to Meizu, the rear Super AMOLED panel will display notifications, time, music controls and serve as a viewfinder when taking selfies from the rear camera. All of this does sound pretty interesting but we’ll rest for a real-life use case after we have tried the smartphones.

On the front, Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus feature a 5.2-inch full HD (1920x1080 pixels) and a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560x1440) Super AMOLED display respectively.

The Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus also sport dual-rear 12-megapixel cameras with Sony’s IMX386 sensor and an aperture size of f/2.0. On the front, both the smartphones come with a 16-megapixel front-facing snapper.

Under the hood, the Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus are rocking in a Helio X30 deca-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz. While the Pro 7 comes with a 4GB of RAM and an internal storage of 64GB, the Pro 7 Plus features 6GB of RAM and onboard storage of 64GB/128GB.

Both the Meixu smartphones run on a custom version of Android 7.0, the company’s Flyme 6 OS.

The Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus comes with a 3,000mAh battery and 3,500mAh battery capacity respectively. It supports the company’s proprietary mCharge 3.0 and 4.0 which, according to the company can charge the smartphone from 0 percent to 67 percent in a matter of 30 minutes.
